The permission to shoot.
by wastefulspace on February 25, 2008

This is a post, for everyone who got the Miss/Sir, bawal mag-shoot dito (Miss/Sir, you can’t shoot here) statement. I have seen countless posts on irritated and disgruntled photographers when all they wanted is to shoot a picture but because of their intimidating cameras the cautious guards permit them to do otherwise.

not slowing down…

Here comes a long battalion of rants and guard encounters. One that particularly perked my interest since I was also forbidden to shoot at the same location was at Bonifacio Global City/ High Street (BGC/BHS for short and will be used throughout the post). Guards were insisting you need a permit of sorts.

Feeling determined, and only 20 steps away from my current office, I went there to ask permission for a photoshoot. In my jeans, vintage print shirts and leather spiked choker, I look like some MassComm/emo college student requesting for a permit.

I talked to Engr. Jun Galvez regarding my predicament and he gave me some forms plus more instructions regarding BHS permits (which was headed by Ms. Fabian).

Armed with this information I relayed it to the same thread, which led into a The Fort EB Photoshoot organized by Mic Narra and yours truly, the permits girl.

After two letters of intent, a list of photographers and their respective equiptments, countless trips to the FBDC (Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation) office, numerous updates on “The Fort Eb” thread, an exchange of payments and 2 weeks later, I was able to produce the permission to shoot at BGC/BHS last Friday night at around 8pm. The permits will be passed to Mic’s friend Ronin.

So Saturday came along, I tried to check if the permits actually work, so I took all my cams out for a walk during lunch just around the office. My Canon IXY910 is, AV-1, and the Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim

Ixy and Av were strapped on my neck while Vivi was wrapped around my wrist. Nobody was reprimanding me as of yet, until I turned into a corner there was Mr. BGC Security and was eyeing me suspiciously from afar.

So, I took out my permit, showed it to Mr. Guard and gave me the go signal and I was snapping away.

So the permits actually work. I did my overtime after, said goodbye to a friend who left for the doctor’s and I waited for Joseph to come.

When he got there, we drove to BHS. The sky was wonderful. Blue and white with touches of orange light from the sun. Everything that crosses it’s path turns golden.

Ronin and I met in front of starbucks and he sat with us together at Bo’s with Spammy and Ivan. While they were blathering about their cameras and lenses I sat spacing out, drinking ice tea and smoking.

BHS from where I was seated. I was just too tired.

again BHS from another perspective in the same line of vision

So I gave Spam the magical forms as He, Ivan and Ronin went off for night shots. Joseph and I sat, tired and was very, very, tired. Lol. Ann came along just before they left to shoot.

While they went of to play, I was feeling accomplished and triumphant, let’s see how this would fair tomorrow.

Sunday was the actual photoshoot. (Saturday was a dry-run). Mic Narra + 20 others gathered to shoot at BHS, armed with their permits and IDs they were given remarks by Nino before they did their thing (which is shoot that is…)

the clouds on Sunday was pretty…

I sneaked off from powerplant to meet with the dudes and daphne. I met up first with Joseph at Rox and he took me to where all the photogs sat at Starbucks.

I greeted and chatted with them and was able to join their group hug photo.

They seemed to be enticed by the food photos I posted since they all went to Dayrits for Lunch :D

I guess, I was really happy. Because they had a good shoot, and I know I was a part of it that made it all possible …

I also want to post this to prove a point that whining and complaining won’t do you anything good. Best thing to do is to take action.

all photos are taken with the Canon IXY 910 is, post-processed with Adobe lightroom

Stumble it!

  1. Miss, you have my permission to shoot. Just tell them that next time ;)

  2. Lucky for you coz you have enough time to do the shoot. I can’t wait 2 weeks for a permit. I don’t really understand why FBDC is so strict with photographers. They are dog-friendly but not photographer-friendly. They are promoting it as a tourist spot but what if there are some tourists who want to take shots of the area? The tourist has to go through the same process of getting the permit? Quite stupid don’t you think? Firstly, the office which gives the permit is not open 24/7. Which means that a request cannot be approved immediately. Secondly, a tourist won’t bother going through all the weird rules. BOO to the FBDC management.

  3. Hi Titus, thanks for the comment. Tourism and a professional shoot is two very different things. It is a tourist spot and you can actually take pictures as long as there are people in it. They want to secure professional photos because it is privately own by Ayala.

Okay lang naman usually if you asked permission na you just want a picture as a souvenir. Eh when you’re 20 people shooting away its kind of obvious that you’re not :)
