on slide film : the unpredictable side of cross-processing
by wastefulspace on March 17, 2008

This is my first ever look at a slide film cross-processed that is not a Kodak Elitechrome. One day, I took the fiery pink and orange sunset with my canon av-1 + an even more fiery fujichrome velvia 100. Here were the hot, hot HOT results.

canon av-1 + expired fujchrome velvia 100 + x-process @ digiprint

The thing with cross-process is the unpredictability of the colors. Maybe expired slides has something to do with it as well. I noticed that when you aim it at the sun, the colors can range from reddish purple to a deep burning red-orange. It changes the sky to an almost purplish hue, and green leaves seem to liven up.

x-processed velvias gives it a more lush and bright color on a warm afternoon sun.

everything turns a bit toasty and burnt. already leaning towards the side of rustic, but I love the colors better that way rather than the whole red-washed photo.

i is red. i burn like fire.

Even the newest of new gets to have an almost vintage feel. Like this fan at Jollibee.

See more on my next few posts….

  1. Again, a lovely serie.
Love how the sky is so warm.

  2. I can’t believe the fan is from plain ol’ Jollibee. Nice.

  3. None of our local stores carry slide film so I haven’t used it in quite a while. I recently got a batch of expired film on ebay so I’m curious to see the results. It is so interesting how the different brands react differently…

    Nice post.

  4. Thanks Niels!

Yes dustin, that fan is from Jollibee. I love how it looked on film. :)

Hi Kristy, thanks for dropping by, I hope you post your film shots soon :)

  5. Fuji slides tend to run hotter than kodak, and x-pro really shows it more. Velvia always renders luscious greens, it’s the only reason I like it, it’s too saturated for my simple taste…I shoot Sensia because it’s more natural colors and bonus it’s cheaper:P Love the fiery red sky in the first shot! I’ll have to dig out some of my xpro fuji slides!:D

p.s. I’ve been trying to comment on these all week but there’s been some sort of technical glitch. :( see ya

  6. hi edye it’s nice to see you comment again :) I have never tried Sensia, since Fuji keeps running out of stock for slides and the main office is so far from where I live.
really? Is it the .net, wordpress or some random internet bug?

  7. Thank you for your message. Friends sent a link to it. Interestingly turned and looked, and others. Subscribe. I would have navedyvatsya
